Mott MacDonald's Water Resources Modelling team are growing in response to the significant increases in global demand for water resources. We urgently need two Principal Modelling Specialists with experience of numerical modelling and programming to work on immediate important projects principally based in our Cambridge UK principal office. Work includes flood mapping flood risk assessments flood management strategies thermal and sediment plume modelling and hydraulic modelling of complex structures in dams and rivers.The requirement is for two principal modellers one specialising in hydrological/flood modelling and one in specialising in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The two roles require some common skills qualifications and experience as follows:• Professional qualifications in environmental science civil engineering or other related disciplines relevant to the roles• Chartered with an appropriate professional institute• Able to take effective responsibility for the project management and technical delivery on modelling assignments that may typically span across different sectors including water and water resources power development and infrastructure development • Relevant experience within a UK consultancy is desirable• Significant experience in designing and developing/writing bespoke software to interface with modelling software in respect of data manipulation would be desirable• Experience in dealing with clients is vital to build effective relationships• Experienced in managing teams of staff both on projects and as a line manager• Relevant overseas experience would be beneficial• Willingness and ability to travel in response to project needs both within the UK and abroad • Full driving licence suitable for use in UK without limitationThe hydrological/flood modelling role requires:• Significant relevant experience in a flood modelling related role • Experience and knowledge of the implementation of flood risk assessment procedures (especially in relation to compliance with flood risk policies and procedures in the UK)• A thorough knowledge and experience in use of TUFLOW ISIS HECRAS and FEH • Experience in the use of GIS as part of modelling assignments to prepare data and present outputs efficientlyThe CFD specialist should have:• Significant experience in project applications of modelling covering ideally; hydraulic structure performance river dynamics flood control and management thermal plume movement and dissipation water quality and sediment transport.• A good GIS knowledge and further specialist qualifications in mathematics fluid dynamics hydrological sciences or hydro dynamic modellingThe preferred location for these positions are in Cambridge however for the right candidate there may be opportunities to be based in one of our other main offices in Croydon Bristol Leeds or Glasgow.
